Restored 1930’s Aladdin Kerosene Lamp

1930 Aladdin

This Aladdin Lamp is from my wife’s grandmother’s house. It’s a model B and made in the 1930′s. It needed a good cleaning plus a new wick, mantle and glass chimney but is working like new. All parts for these are still available and they are well worth restoring. They are very bright and as a bonus they give off a lot of heat if you have a winter power outage.

Tuesday Prepnet Countdown

The calendar says that it is Tuesday so that must mean there is another great Jars Prep net coming up at 2100 EDT tonight.  Lately we have covered some interesting topics and I was reading around lately the following two articles stuck out to me and should be talked about a little more in depth.

5 map & compass navigation tips for preppers

While this is not about how to use a sextant to get around it does have some great points. I am pretty certain anyone that has done some orienteering will agree these are fairly good.

If you are not familiar with the term orienteering or are rusty at the practical application then click the PTT button and chime in.

Perhaps if there is enough interest we can set up a class or contest utilizing the skills.

Electrical Grid maybe the next wars battlefield

This is a great article about how the power that we have all come to depend on may disappear or how fragile it really is. If you are not prepping for alternative power you should listen to some of the valued resources that are already doing it and share with the Jars Prep Net.

Hopefully these will put us all in a talkative mood. Please plan on tuning in tonight at 9:00 PM on the AK4H repeater as we have our weekly rag chew about preparedness. Whether you enjoy listening on your radio, scanner, or even echolink it is a check in driven net so if you have your technician license or higher feel free to hit the PTT button. If you have not gotten your ticket yet please let us know what we can do to help.

Bring the A/C for Field Day

I was doing some light reading and all of a sudden Harley came to mind! Once that thought settled down for a minute I remembered the prep net recently that Harley mentioned a swamp cooler. The article I was reading is a how to on building exactly what Harley was talking about.

There are unsubstantiated rumors that the honorable Harley may debut his tent A/C at the Jars Field Day. I would watch for the long extension cord running into Little Billy’s house as he may not have the power sorted out yet.

Join us tonight at 09:00 PM this evening on the Mighty ’27 as we have our weekly Prep net. I am sure their will be talk of Field Day and we may even be graced with the honorably Harley and an update to the potato patch and his portable A/C unit.

Hollywood Jeff Hammond was Prepared

I saw a post on twitter the last night that shows Hollywood Jeff Hammond was prepared for a power outage. You know that guy who made a lot of money and fame in Nascar! He was a crew chief for Jaws so you know he has dealt with a lot of hard heads.

hammondLooking forward to hearing you tonight on the AK4H repeater at 147.270 Mhz. We gather to talk about Preparedness, whether it is for the two day power outage or the Zombie apocalypse. Whether you enjoy listening on your radio, scanner, or even echolink it is a check in driven net so if you have your technician license or higher feel free to hit the PTT button. If you have not gotten your ticket yet please let us know what we can do to help.

P.S. We welcome back JJ to the world of Radios! We all wish you a speedy recovery!
